The Winter Solstice and Yule (a poem)

mist gropes from the woods

up the road across the pasture
stretching for my window

darkness between trees
takes the shape of men
who have forgotten the way home

the sun is silent, still
but deep beneath the frozen soil
I hear the whispered promise

About 30 minutes past midnight tonight, we'll start, officially, the Winter Solstice here on the east coast of North America.

Tomorrow, the 22nd of December, is the day that some will celebrate their seasonal holiday, Yule. Many will begin tonight and continue into tomorrow.

It's a time when all can come together, from every faith and belief or lack-thereof and to see ourselves for what we are--the dust of our own star, alive.

A toast to dust!
