The trick here is to turn off the intellect for a moment. Our mind usually likes to have the conscious, self-aware part of itself in charge. That's the part that can read these words (and write them). But for intuition to be given a chance to work, our "in charge" part of the mind has to let go a bit.
Here's a few ways to do that.
Stop thinking about what you're thinking about! Suppose you're trying to figure out how to earn more money doing what you love. (Who isn't?) Instead of making more lists, reading more articles and searching the Internet--try simply stating what you want, and then sit and do something else. "Like what?" you ask. Like sharpening a knife or polishing silver or oiling a cutting board or doing the dishes by hand or folding laundry or watering the plants or folding paper and unfolding it--it doesn't matter. It just needs to be something that demotes the "I'm in charge" consciousness and permits the subconscious to go to work on your problem.
After a little while, return to thinking about your real issue--how to make more money doing what you love. The intuitive moment will frequently happen as you start your thinking. If you don't feel you came up with anything new, once again--state your intention clearly to yourself and go back to distracting the consciousness by giving it a task again...
Practicing this kind of alternating back and forth between the two parts of our minds boosts the intuitive side of our thinking--which doesn't get used nearly as much as it should.
For people in some cultures, especially those in which meditation plays a part, valuing the sort of "turning off" the consciousness that I'm talking about here--results in a strong intuition, and for these people, the intuitive mind is a very powerful part of the overall thinking process. Their minds are nicely balanced between the strong, intellectual side and the subtle, intuitive side.
